Course Outline

Here is a description of the different stages of learning kitesurfing and the basic skills you need to master to be independent and fully enjoy this sport safely. And it has been our passion at Kitesurfing Colombia to teach them to you since 2019.

Theory

The lesson begins with a theory session on the beach to explain the basic knowledge necessary for proper understanding and practice of kitesurfing, such as weather conditions (especially safe wind speeds and directions), navigation-specific terms (upwind and downwind), and the wind window.
This theory section also includes teaching the safety systems of a kitesurfing kite and their correct use, the safe preparation of the equipment, and the takeoff and landing of the kite on the ground.

Theory

Kite Control

Kite Control

After the theory, the practical part of the sport begins with teaching how to control the kite on the beach or in shallow water. For this, the student performs kitesurf control exercises that consist of keeping the kite in the air without moving it, using one or both hands on the bar. He also learns to walk on the beach while the kite is flying.

Body Drag

Once the kite is well mastered on land, the student can then go into deep water to be pulled by it, and thus learn to move through the water while controlling their direction (upwind, sidewind, or downwind) and the power of the kite.

Body Drag with the board

When the student is comfortable with the kite and masters it perfectly both on the beach and in the water, he can then practice body dragging with the board. This consists of going into the water with the kite and the board in order to learn how to retrieve the board if he loses it, and to move properly with all the equipment in the sea, without actually navigating yet.

Waterstart

Finally comes the ultimate step of basic learning: the waterstart.
The student goes into the water with the kite and the board, moves away from the shore, and then tries to place the board on his feet. If he manage to do so, he can then move the kite to lift themselves out of the water, start gaining speed, and glide on the surface.
This final step requires correctly applying all the skills previously learned.Once the kite is well mastered on land, the student can then go into deep water to be pulled by it, and thus learn to move through the water while controlling their direction (upwind, sidewind, or downwind) and the power of the kite.

Waterstart

The order of these steps or exercises can be adjusted depending on the weather conditions and the student’s needs.
